The **root mean square** of a dataset is defined as:

√( (x_{1}^{2} + x_{2}^{2} + … + x_{n}^{2})/n )

where x_{i}^{2} is the squared value of the i^{th} value in the dataset and *n* is the total number of values in the dataset.
