# How to Calculate Percent Complete in Google Sheets

Often you may want to calculate the completion percentage of a project in Google Sheets.

Fortunately this is easy to do and the following two examples show how to do so in different scenarios.

## Example 1: Calculate Percent Complete Based on Missing Cells

Suppose we have a column of tasks along with their status in Google Sheets:

To calculate the percentage of tasks that have been completed, we can type the following formula into cell D2:

`=COUNTA(B2:B11)/COUNTA(A2:A11)`

The following screenshot shows how to do so:

From the output we can see that 0.3 or 30% of the tasks have been completed.

Note that the COUNTA function counts the number of cells in a range that are not empty.

Thus, in this formula we count the number of non-empty cells in the Status column and divide by the number of non-empty cells in the Task column to calculate the completion percentage.

## Example 2: Calculate Percent Complete Based on Text in Cells

Suppose we have a column of tasks along with their status in Google Sheets:

To calculate the percentage of tasks that have a status of “Done”, we can type the following formula into cell D2:

`=COUNTIF(B2:B11, "Done")/COUNTA(A2:A11)`

The following screenshot shows how to do so:

From the output we can see that 30% of the total tasks have been completed.

Note: Feel free to click the Format as Percent icon along the top ribbon in Google Sheets to display the decimal as a percentage value.
