This calculator finds the degrees of freedom for an independent two-sample t-test of means using the following formula:
(s12/n1 + s22/n2)2 / { [ (s12 / n1)2 / (n1 – 1) ] + [ (s22 / n2)2 / (n2 – 1) ] }
where n1 and n2 are the sample sizes of sample 1 and sample 2, respectively, and s1 and s2 are the sample standard deviations of sample 1 and sample 2, respectively.
